10 Essential Jay Briscoe Matches
1. The Briscoes Vs. FTR (ROH, Various)
Tony Khan perfected the art of a professional wrestling trilogy in 2022 when he booked and promoted the series of matches between the Briscoes and FTR, concocting the kind of aura that can't be found anywhere else in today's wrestling world.
You'll struggle to find better tag team chemistry. Although there have been glaringly obvious selections for better one-off tag team matches throughout history, it's rare to find two tag teams receive the trilogy treatment, meaning that when it does happen, it receives a reaction of this magnitude.
It was f**king brilliant.
A series of gritty, southern-style tags that concluded in a barbaric Double Dog Collar match, the style of which has slowly been modernised with such examples as CM Punk vs. MJF and Cody Rhodes vs. the late Brodie Lee, each bout featured in match of the year consideration as they delivered incredible professional wrestling, the level of which had been missing from the last few years of the company's existence.
Every speck of every match meant something in what could be described as the most perfect display of tag team wrestling ever witnessed on North American soil.
That this tragically turned out to be Jay Briscoe's final offering to the company that he helped build and that helped build him is entirely bittersweet. It was the most fitting way for his ROH career to end that will encourage fans to remember the legacy he left behind on the promotion.
It was perfection.
Godspeed, Jamin Pugh.
