10 Exact Moments Wrestlers Told WWE Creative “Enough Is Enough”
4. Chris Jericho’s WrestleMania Demotion
No, Chris Jericho is nowhere to be found in that pic. It's from Kevin Owens' Universal Title defence vs. Goldberg at Fastlane 2017, but it started pushing Jericho towards a WWE departure long before that actually happened. The veteran was sick and tired of how things were handled.
Goldberg beating KO at Fastlane was a death knell for Jericho's full-time WWE career, and his excitement for Vince McMahon's leadership overall. McMahon demoted Jericho vs. Owens from World Title marquee slot at 'Mania 33 to second on the card and a United States Title scrap.
Then, the boss bashed their performance behind the curtain in Orlando. That was too much for 'Y2J' to take, and he's since revealed that this series of events led to him departing WWE entirely. Some matches in New Japan followed, then Jericho helped launch AEW in early-to-mid-2019.
He hasn't looked back since. Goldberg's title win pretty much led to Jericho's WWE exit.
