Mabel's 1995 main event push was an outright disaster, but it's perhaps one Vince McMahon would've persevered with had his new King Of The Ring not been such a walking danger zone. After all, Mabel had impressive natural size during the post-steroid scandal era, and his push was considered worth experimenting with.

At SummerSlam '95, Mabel messed everything up. He crushed Diesel's back despite being asked not to perform his sit-down squash spot. Kevin Nash was angry, and Vince wanted to fire the 'King' backstage right then and there. According to Nash, he was the one who stepped in and stopped that from happening. He'd hoped it'd act as a warning to Mabel.

Nope.

The 'King' still broke The Undertaker's orbital bone with some clumsy leg drops a few months later. The WWF had already decided they couldn't run with Mabel as a consistent top liner after the Diesel mess, but putting 'Taker on the shelf was further proof that this dangerous big man didn't have it.
