While there have been many world champions since Vince McMahon began running WWE in the 1980s, there have been only a handful of WWE flagship performers.

"The Face That Runs The Place" is the cutesy tagline given to that role today, currently occupied by John Cena, but the men that preceded John were names like Stone Cold Steve Austin, Bret Hart and Hulk Hogan.

There were others that tried to take the torch along the way, some succeeding temporarily while others failed immediately, but Bret was always the guy Vince came back to after his latest project flopped.

In fact, Bret was called upon to carry the company as WWF Champion a record-tying 5 times. What makes it even more impressive is that Bret was the first guy to lead the WWF following the departure of Hulk Hogan, an almost impossible act to follow, at least for most.

Bret has made that comparisons to Vince giving the WWF image a new coat of paint, whether it was the red, white and blue of Lex Luger, the black and chrome of Big Daddy Cool Diesel or even the red and yellow of Hulkamania in 1993, but the pink and black of Bret "Hitman" Hart always kept shining through.
