10 Failed Attempts To Recreate Great Wrestling Stables
6. Fabulous Freebirds
The Fabulous Freebirds' storied run in the fabled territories began in Mid-South Wrestling in 1979.
A three man urban tribe comprised of teenager Terry Gordy, Buddy Roberts and leader and mouthpiece Michael P.S. Hayes, the 'birds had a spell in Memphis before creating history in Dallas.
Instigating a feud with the hometown Von Erich brothers in World Class, the Freebirds' legendary run in WCCW is still remembered as the most heated feud of the 1980s.
Moving on to Georgia Championship Wrestling and the AWA , the 'birds ended up in Bill Watts' UWF in the late '80s, where the trio began solo careers.
With Roberts winding down his in ring career and Gordy becoming a draw in Japan, Hayes was paired with former Freebird ally Terry Garvin to try and recreate the magic in WCW in 1989.
Adding the masked Fantasia (later Badstreet), otherwise known as Brad Armstrong to the mix and recruiting a new manger in the shape of undercard wrestler Little Richard Marley , the new Freebirds were a hodgepodge of the WCW f*ckery of the day.
With the bloom off the rose, the Freebirds spent the next two years feuding over the US Tag Team titles and Six Man titles before disbanding permanently in 1992.
