2. NWO

The birth of the nWo was the genesis of the Monday Night War, igniting the hottest period in professional wrestling history.

The original stable, consisting of Scott Hall, Kevin Nash and Hulk Hogan, attempting a hostile takeover of WCW, was instrumental in not only WCW's ascent of WWE, but was the catalyst behind wrestling's move towards becoming a more adult-oriented product.

Forcing the hand of WWE to follow suit with more mature content, the nWo soon fell victim to WCW's lack of creative direction, as a plethora of unrelated names were added to the nWo roster, adding little but confusion to the group's purpose.

Fracturing the group into two separate units, the nWo story line meandered into oblivion during 1998 and was finally ended in 1999 having led fans right back to WWE.

Not for long though...

In late 1999, Nash and Hall would resurrect the nWo as nWo 2000. With a new silver logo and Bret Hart and Jeff Jarrett in tow, the group added perennial jabronis the Harris twins to their roster and began feuding with the likes of Sid Vicious and Terry Funk.

The reunion, which endured for five long months, was ended when Eric Bischoff and Vince Russo returned to further lower WCW's casket.
