10 Failed Pushes That Weren't WWE's Fault
1. Sin Cara
Sin Cara developed an unfortunate reputation as one of the most botchy WWE wrestlers ever. Luis Alvirde, the original man behind the mask, was a colossal lucha libre star but never adapted to the American style, resulting in a series of high-profile mistakes.
WWE clearly wanted to go all-in with Alvirde, as they were searching for a Hispanic who could rival the popularity of Rey Mysterio. The company gave him some significant vignettes before his debut, and things seemed set for him to become a star, but then fans got a glimpse at his in-ring problems.
The performer worked so well for CMLL in Mexico under the name Mystico, but translating over to a western market just wasn't in the cards. Not only was his lack of English language skills a massive determent to his ability to tell stories, but the in-ring style of American wrestling is so vastly different to what he was used to, and without being given ample time to adjust in developmental, the original Sin Cara failed.
There was nothing WWE could do to keep the mystique of this character alive, even after recasting the role.
