10 Fake Versions Of Popular WWE Superstars
2. Diesel - Glenn Jacobs
Much like the Razor Ramon gimmick that accompanied him, the appearance of the fake Diesel in late 1996 was a real headscratcher.
It's one thing to stand in for a masked man or someone whose face is covered in paint, but it's another entirely to play dress up and pass yourself off as the real deal. It was insulting to the fans, it was insulting to the wrestlers portraying them, and it was insulting to the business as a whole.
Nevertheless, that didn't stop WWF from keeping the phoney pair on life support for three months after their gimmicks were pronounced died on arrival. Diesel even went on to make it to the final three in the 1997 Royal Rumble. However, he would disappear from TV immediately after the match.
Post-Rumble, the fake Diesel and Razor gimmicks seeped over into the USWA, where the two would feud together. The rivalry culminated in a "Loser Leaves Town" match, which thankfully led to both gimmicks leaving town for good afterwards.
Despite being a horrible gimmick we all want to forget, the fake Diesel role did give Glenn Jacobs further time to hone his craft on the big stage. He would eventually get his reward that October, when he re-debuted as the 'Big Red Machine' Kane.
