10 False Wrestling Facts You Probably Believe
1. Vince McMahon Is A Creative Genius
He's said it himself often enough: Vince McMahon is a creative genius who generously bequeathed to us all a hybrid of pro wrestling and film that he labelled "sports entertainment".
But too often, the distinction isn't made: Vince McMahon isn't a creative genius but rather a promotional genius.
There was no man better than selling the story to the public, but Vince rarely conceived of the story. He couldn't fathom that brothers would fight, because he'd rather insert crushed leaves into his blood relatives than squabble with them. He didn't conceive of Austin Vs. McMahon, his own greatest triumph, because he thought fans would side with him over the hero they'd forged a profound connection with over years and years. He didn't think the Royal Rumble was a good idea.
These are examples of the man in his prime.
Nowadays, before he delegated more responsibility to the Executive Directors, his thoroughly baffling and repetitive 2019 output was genuine evidence of deteriorating cognitive function.
Most can agree this version by consensus isn't a genius - he is a more inadvertent Vince Russo - but even the prime Vince wasn't much of an ideas man.
