It took Bubba Ray Dudley leaving WWE and slightly changing his name for the hardcore icon to finally win his first World title.

Going by the name Bully Ray, the tag team legend became a two-time TNA Heavyweight Champion, memorably leading Aces & Eights during their reign of terror. He was a fairly regular title contender during the mid-2010s - a stark contrast to how he was viewed back in the old place.

Bubba was firmly entrenched in the tag division during his WWE run, except for a brief excursion into the Hardcore Championship scene during The Dudley Boyz' inexplicable break-up.

He got just one shot at the big prize, which came on the December 28th 2000 episode of SmackDown. His opponent was Kurt Angle, another future TNA star, and the match wasn't even given the main event slot. The Olympic Gold Medallist defeated the man from Dudleyville in under five minutes, and that was that.

Interestingly, Bubba received the same number of WCW Championship matches in WWE, as he and D-Von once took on The Rock in a handicap tables match.

It was the Invasion. Anything went back then.
