Whilst Bubba Ray had to wait until after WWE to become a World champion, Faarooq had already tasted glory before he started working for the McMahons.

Under his real name of Ron Simmons, the former football star memorably defeated Vader to capture the WCW World Heavyweight Championship, becoming the first (widely recognised) African-American World champ in the history of the sport.

You'd have thought this milestone would have translated into a main event push in the other company. Think again.

Instead, Simmons, now going by Faarooq Asad (later just Faarooq), languished in the midcard, his biggest achievements coming as part of either The Nation of Domination or The APA.

His sole WWE Championship match took place on pay-per-view, as he challenged The Undertaker in the main event of King of the Ring 1997. Sadly, in a year dominated by the rise of Stone Cold, the formation of DX, and the Montreal Screwjob, this bout (which he lost, by the way) is often forgotten about.

This pretty much marked the end of Faarooq's time in the main event scene, as some young whippersnapper called The Rock was only a year or so away from taking his place.
