10 Famous Wrestling Conspiracy Theories
2. Montreal Screwjob Was A Work
The Montreal Screwjob was the moment that changed WWE - and the wrestling industry as a whole - forever, and for some fans it worked too well, and generated too much buzz, for things to have been completely as they seemed.
Instead, they posit that Bret Hart was in on the whole thing, having agreed to do Vince McMahon one last solid before heading to Atlanta (though what he got in return isn't exactly clear, since - by most accounts - he was pushed out of the company by the chairman in an effort to save money).
Granted, the Screwjob did to some extent benefit both parties, as WWE put more eyes on their product and Hart - who was probably heading into his final run in the ring - for a short while became the industry's most talked-about wrestler, just as he prepared to make his WCW bow.
If it's true then both Bret and Vince are remarkably committed to maintaining the illusion, having remained at loggerheads for more than a decade before making peace with one another ahead of their kayfabe showdown at WrestleMania XXVI.
