10 Fantastic WrestleMania Matches You Totally Forgot

4. Aguila vs. Taka Michinoku - WrestleMania XIV

The WWF did a lot right in the late nineties, but there was one area where WCW would always have them beat, the Cruiserweight Division. WCW introduced the mainstream American audience to the varied styles of the likes of Jushin €œThunder€ Liger, Rey Mysterio Jr, and Dean Malenko, and although WWF tried to catch up, they never quite figured out how to make it work. The Light-Heavyweight Division was often an afterthought in WWF, but whenever it was given time, it would really steal the show. At WrestleMania XIV, the champion Taka Michinoku faced masked man Aguila (Essa Ríos) for the Light-Heavyweight Championship and blew everyone away with the sort of high-risk, fast paced match that WWF audiences just weren€™t used to. The Light-Heavyweight division would never quite reach the potential that this match showcased, as not long afterwards, the championship would be picked up by parody wrestler Gillberg and forgotten about for over a year. Given how good this match is, it€™s a mystery why WWF didn€™t put more effort into an exciting division that could have drawn focus away from WCW, but sadly, it was always the red-headed stepchild of The Attitude Era.
