10 Fascinating Facts About 2019's 5-Star Matches

2. Two Days

I mentioned in a previous entry that Kota Ibushi wrestled two 5-star matches just two days apart from one another this past August, but believe it or not, he is not the only wrestler to achieve such a feat that year.

In fact, he wasn't even the first wrestler to do so.

In July of 2019, Will Ospreay also wrestled two 5-star matches two days apart from one another - both were G1 Climax bouts with Ibushi and Kazuchika Okada, respectively. What's even more bonkers about all of this is that both Ibushi and Ospreay achieved higher ratings in their respective second matches. Ibushi went from a 5-star match with Okada to a 5.5-star match with Jay White, while the high-flying Ospreay flew even higher, going from a 5-star banger with Ibushi to a 5.75-star masterpiece with Okada.

Given the way these two lads wrestle, the impact that this must have had on their bodies is akin to that of a UFC fighter after two full, five-round fights with top-level talent in the same week. Good God, the muscle soreness and bone bruising must have been agonizing... tough sons of b****es, they.
