Nexus was a hot commodity by the time SummerSlam rolled around in August. The group's June debut was newsworthy because Daniel Bryan was fired after choking ring announcer Justin Roberts with his tie, and the stable carried an edge generally. Speaking of Edge, he was one of the ones championing the new heels heading into the pay-per-view.

Both Edge and Chris Jericho thought the star-studded 'Team WWE' must lose to Nexus at SummerSlam. Unfortunately for them, John Cena thought differently, and Vince McMahon agreed with his poster boy. They figured the babyface unit should stand tall to send the fans home happy at the end of the night.

'Y2J' and Edge argued that this would crush Nexus as a threat. Ultimately, they were right. SummerSlam cut the legs clean off Wade Barrett's crew - they were never the same afterwards. It's unclear exactly how heated things got behind the scenes about all of this, but Jericho and Edge have defended their stance in the media ever since.

Meanwhile, Cena has refused to accept full responsibility for the way things played out.
