10 Fascinating Final Matches From Famous Wrestlers

2. Yokozuna

The last time fans were able to see Yokozuna was at the infamous Heroes of Wrestling pay-per-view. This was an ending that no one deserved.

Six years earlier, Yokozuna was on top of the wrestling world. He was the WWF Champion, and main-evented multiple WrestleManias. Then his already large size was becoming an even bigger problem as he continued to pack on the pounds. The WWF had no choice but to let him go, as their attempts to get him to shed weight failed.

At Heroes of Wrestling, on 10th October, 1999, he was scheduled to battle King Kong Bundy, in the battle of the beluga whales. However, due to the drunken (and likely other substances) antics of Jake Roberts (which included taking his snake and putting it by his crotch to mimic a penis), the two final matches had to be turned into a tag bout to save the show from further embarrassment. Yokozuna eventually, and slowly, emerged weighing close to 800 lbs. He was the size of opponents Jim Neidhart and Bundy combined, and maybe Roberts as well. That's not hyperbole.

The entire thing was a horrible trainwreck. It’s one of the worst pay-per-view main events in the history of the business, and the last time Yokozuna was seen on a national scene, as he passed away the following year.

As Rust Cohle from True Detective said "Life's barely long enough to get good at one thing. So be careful what you're good at." Sadly, I can't solve a murder like Rust...or change a tire, or even tie a tie. But I do know all the lyrics to Hulk Hogan's "Real American" theme song and can easily name every Natural Born Thriller from the dying days of WCW. I was once ranked 21st in the United States in Tetris...on the Playstation 3 version...for about a week. Follow along @AndrewSoucek and check out my podcast at wrestlingwithfriends.com
