10 Fascinating Final Matches From Famous Wrestlers

1. The Big Boss Man

We’re going to cheat just a touch here, as we’re looking at Ray Traylor’s second to last match. His actual last one was facing Jim Duggan, which isn’t exactly all that interesting. But the one before that? It was against none other than the man who haunts nightmares: Freddy Krueger.

Boss Man had been released by WWE in 2003, and took to working the indie scene and going to Japan to make money. There he took on Krueger in a six-man tournament for the vacant IWA Wrestling Association title.

Krueger was played by Doug Gilbert, the brother of Eddie Gilbert. Someone wrestling as a horror villain wasn’t particularly unusual in Japan, as there was also a successful wrestler known as Leatherface with a Texas Chainsaw Massacre gimmick (played by the WWF’s Corporal Kirchner).

While we know Freddy can only be killed outside of a dream, we didn’t know he was so susceptible to the Boss Man Slam, as that’s all it took for the horror icon to be pinned.

Perhaps in a way, this was a strangely fitting final match. Boss Man spent the majority of his career fighting crime, and here he was putting away one of the biggest serial killers ever.

As Rust Cohle from True Detective said "Life's barely long enough to get good at one thing. So be careful what you're good at." Sadly, I can't solve a murder like Rust...or change a tire, or even tie a tie. But I do know all the lyrics to Hulk Hogan's "Real American" theme song and can easily name every Natural Born Thriller from the dying days of WCW. I was once ranked 21st in the United States in Tetris...on the Playstation 3 version...for about a week. Follow along @AndrewSoucek and check out my podcast at wrestlingwithfriends.com
