10 Fascinating Final Matches From Famous Wrestlers

3. Curt Hennig

When you think of Curt Hennig, you think of Mr. Perfect, or his time in the AWA. You think of the great vignettes, the cocky attitude, fun promos, and big matches against the likes of Bret Hart and Hulk Hogan.

Hennig tragically passed away in 2003, but at least he got to go out against a legend...well, the son of a legend.

On the 8th January, 2003 edition of TNA’s weekly pay-per-view, Hennig battled David Flair in a match. Since Vince Russo was on creative at this time, it was an Axehandle on a Pole match. Ah dammit.

Hennig bragged about taking down Brock Lesnar on the Plane Ride From Hell in WWE on the pre-match promo, before calling Flair out. They only went a few minutes in the ring, neither climbed the pole, and Hennig was attacked with an object in a burlap sack. Because Vince Russo.

A legendary wrestler facing a bad opponent in an embarrassing match. This was about as far from perfect as you can get for an ending.

As Rust Cohle from True Detective said "Life's barely long enough to get good at one thing. So be careful what you're good at." Sadly, I can't solve a murder like Rust...or change a tire, or even tie a tie. But I do know all the lyrics to Hulk Hogan's "Real American" theme song and can easily name every Natural Born Thriller from the dying days of WCW. I was once ranked 21st in the United States in Tetris...on the Playstation 3 version...for about a week. Follow along @AndrewSoucek and check out my podcast at wrestlingwithfriends.com
