10 Fascinating Final Matches From Famous Wrestlers

6. Bret Hart

Firstly, we should make it clear that we're ignoring Bret's ill-advised run in WWE between 2010 and 2011. We're quite sure Hart himself views those appearances as a novelty sideshow rather than actual wrestling matches.

Back in 2000, Bret Hart and Kevin Nash were both in the newly reformed nWo. This time with black and silver! They were booked against each other on a match on Nitro on 10th January, with both men refusing to lay down for the other. Hart as the leader of the group had the World Title, and felt he was in the right. Diesel didn’t agree. Perhaps the Fingerpoke of Doom had soured him on the idea?

The one thing everyone should have been able to agree on is that Hart absolutely should not have been in the ring that night. A few weeks earlier, he suffered a severe concussion against Bill Goldberg at Starrcade '99. Instead of taking off the appropriate time to heal, he stayed active in the ring, which may have been the fatal blow to his career.

Hart always took a tremendous amount of pride in his work, so you can imagine a random Nitro match against his old WWF opponent in Nash was not how he wanted millions of fans to remember him. However, even with everything working against him, The Hitman once again carried Big Daddy Cool to a passable match.

Also of note was that 10th January, 2000 was the final Nitro that Vince Russo booked. Two legends going out on the same night!

As Rust Cohle from True Detective said "Life's barely long enough to get good at one thing. So be careful what you're good at." Sadly, I can't solve a murder like Rust...or change a tire, or even tie a tie. But I do know all the lyrics to Hulk Hogan's "Real American" theme song and can easily name every Natural Born Thriller from the dying days of WCW. I was once ranked 21st in the United States in Tetris...on the Playstation 3 version...for about a week. Follow along @AndrewSoucek and check out my podcast at wrestlingwithfriends.com
