10 Fascinating WWE Backstage Facts About Becky Lynch
3. She Retired From Wrestling In 2006
Injuries suck, but they are a reality every wrestler needs to dance with. Every in-ring performer will get one at some point in their career, and some are worse than others. Tragically, a young Becky Lynch learned this lesson the hard way.
Lynch made her way to WWE in 2014 and eventually rose to superstardom, but she had been performing on the indie circuit years before then. The future Women's Champion frequented numerous independent wrestling promotions throughout 2005, beginning to make a name for herself.
However, while wrestling in Germany in 2006, she suffered a catastrophic head injury that took a massive toll on her health. A concussion led her to suffer painful, lasting headaches, buzzing in her left ear, and even affected her vision. This led her to make the worst choice a young wrestler could make: retire from in-ring competition at 19 years old.
Lynch has discussed this rough time in her life in an interview with ESPN, describing it as "like a death for me." She was living in Florida at the time and claimed she was completely lost in life and worried whether she could even make it in wrestling. The injury became the catalyst for her to step away officially.
This forced retirement would last until 2013, when Lynch would return to the ring and sign with WWE.
