10 Fascinating WWE Backstage Facts About Brock Lesnar
3. He Nearly Worked For WWE And UFC At The Same Time
From the moment Brock Lesnar returned to WWE in 2012, there have been rumours about him returning to the UFC again.
You know the story by now: Brock won the UFC Heavyweight Championship in record time, then held it for two years before losing to Cain Velasquez. He left the world of mixed martial arts not long after, with a series of life-threatening conditions affecting his final matches.
WWE seemed like the perfect place to go after that; he could keep doing what he loved but in a controlled environment. It was perfect. He returned to face John Cena and the rest is history, but not all of it gets talked about.
Lesnar made his return to MMA at UFC 200 in a match with Mark Hunt (where the result was overturned and recorded as a no-contest), but he went back to the Octagon one more time after that.
At UFC 226, Brock, who was the reigning Universal Champion at the time, stormed out to confront current UFC Heavyweight Champion Daniel Cormier. It was an intense moment that made fans sit up and wonder if WWE and the UFC would ever work together. Unfortunately, the Beast Incarnate decided to retire from MMA again and the match never took place. Besides, he was serving a ban at the time anywhere so it was a pipedream really.
With WWE and the UFC merging in 2023, this could still happen...
