10 Fascinating WWE Backstage Facts About Brock Lesnar
2. He Lost To Kurt Angle In A Shoot Wrestling Match
Brock Lesnar and Kurt Angle are two of the greatest amateur wrestlers of all-time.
Angle won an Olympic gold medal with a broken freakin' neck, while Lesnar is a former NCAA Heavyweight Champion with an astonishing 106-5 record. Fans got to see the two of them throw down plenty of times from 2002-2004; whether you prefer their Ironman match on SmackDown, the main event of WrestleMania XIX, or their final bout at IGF Toukon Bom-Ba-Ye (if you know...), you can't deny how much chemistry these two stars had.
With the amount of testosterone flying around a WWE locker room, it's no surprise that Angle-Lesnar also happened behind closed doors. According to Kurt, the Next Big Thing's ego got the better of him and he paid the price.
There's no doubt that the Beast Incarnate was the real deal. He was strong enough to throw anybody around, he was as fast as a cruiserweight, and he could do the Shooting Star Press! To try and prove himself, Brock challenged Kurt to a shoot match backstage. Big mistake pal!
Angle was eager to prove that he was the true beast, so he accepted the challenge. According to the Olympic gold medalist, he took Lesnar down numerous times in front of a feisty WWE roster. Brock didn't get Kurt on his back once, so the older star was declared the winner.
It's a macho world in WWE; even if he couldn't take Angle down, the rest of the WWE stars will have respected Lesnar nonetheless.
