Prior to 1995, only three WWE pay-per-views failed to reach 200,000 buys: the 1989 Royal Rumble (165,000), the 1993 Survivor Series (180,000), and the 1994 King of the Ring (185,000). The 1995 King of the Ring set a new low point for the company, only managing to rake in 150,000 buys, a resounding thud like none before it.

Other WWE pay-per-views have since finished lower, most notably 2006's ECW-brand December to Dismember with a dismal 90,000 buys. The advent of WWE Network, and the evolution of streaming services, haven since taken a huge chunk out of pay-per-view, so there have been many modern events that make the 1995 King of the Ring look like a major money winner by comparison.

But in 1995, King of the Ring was a night that showed everything that was wrong with WWE, based on the lack of interest in it.
