10 Fascinating WWE King Of The Ring 2001 Facts
7. DDP Was Talked Out Of His First Pitch For A Feud
Diamond Dallas Page's work ethic is truly second to none, as evidenced not only by his commitment to fitness (he does not look 61), but his willingness to jump into the WWE pool. Page was under contract with Time Warner (WCW's parent company), and was not part of the first wave of assets acquired by Vince McMahon.
Unlike the likes of Goldberg, Kevin Nash, Sting, and others, DDP agreed to a buyout of his lucrative Time Warner deal, essentially forfeiting free money just to take part in the Invasion angle. If only he knew what lay ahead, he'd have sat home like everyone else.
Keep that in mind when you watch Page get beaten virtually one-sidedly by Undertaker at King of the Ring, the 2014 Brazilian National Team to Undertaker's Germany. Also keep in mind that according to Page, he pitched an angle with The Rock, only for McMahon to talk him out of it, and steer him toward The Undertaker feud. Page would state in 2014 that he should've just walked away from the entire offer.
