It wasn't the first time that the power of Hulkamania played havoc with storyline plans, although in this case, how could WWE refuse? When the dust settled after both WrestleMania 18 and the brand extension's all-important draft, Triple H fielded his first challenger for the Undisputed WWE Championship: The Undertaker.

The pre-WrestleMania plan was for Undertaker to face Triple H at Backlash for the belt, and there was even a segment on the April 1 Raw where Undertaker issued the challenge. Plans quickly changed to Hogan getting a title match, owing to the ungodly reactions The Hulkster was getting. WWE wanted to strike while the iron was hot, and put Hogan into the match immediately.

In roundabout fashion, Hogan got the belt from Helmsley, lost to Undertaker, and Undertaker defended against Triple H at King of the Ring, giving us the intended match, only with the belt around the waist of the other wrestler.
