Conspicuous by his absence in the 1992 Royal Rumble match was Brian Knobbs of the Nasty Boys. Partner Jerry Sags took part as the fourth entry, while it was said that Knobbs missed the event with a separated shoulder.

In truth, two weeks before the Rumble, both Nastys and Irwin R. Schyster were departing from from a house show in Peoria, IL, when Knobbs and Sags were assaulted by a group of young men who had apparently followed them in another car. A 20-year-old male was accused of stabbing Knobbs in the chest with a knife. The three men who initiated the attack were charged with aggravated battery and mob action.

Filling in for Knobbs in the Rumble match was Haku, who hadn't appeared regularly on WWE shows since the early summer of 1991.
