If you thought WWE jumped through hoops to explain away negative reactions to John Cena and Roman Reigns, check out what the company tried to do for Hulk Hogan, in regards to the 1992 Royal Rumble match.

When the battle came down to three men (Hogan, Sid, and Flair), Sid snuck up behind Hogan and tossed him out, drawing a sizable babyface pop while Hogan blew a gasket at ringside. Hogan was drawing more derision in recent months, either due to his disastrous Arsenio Hall interview regarding steroid use, or simply the fact that fans were burnt out on him. Likely, it was both.

As for that loud reaction to Hogan's elimination, it was edited for ensuing WWE programs, with heavy boos dubbed over the cheers for Sid when he eliminated Hogan. Even Gorilla Monsoon and Bobby Heenan were made to record a new commentary track, where Monsoon loudly decried Sid as underhanded, to make sure everybody knew that he was the real heel here. This edited version can be heard on the February 1992 Saturday Night's Main Event, on WWE Network.
