Even if Mick Foley was okay with everything that transpired, it still doesn't stop the ending of the I Quit match from being difficult to watch. The Rock handcuffed Mankind and proceeded to deliver a series of wicked, unblocked chair shots to Foley's skull, in order to render him unconscious. This, while Foley's wife Colette, and young children Dewey and Noelle, watched on in tearful horror.

One of the big points of contention is that Rock gave Foley more chair shots than was agreed upon. The magic number was five, but Rock delivered 11. The assumption was that Foley would have taken the fifth one at some point in the aisle way as the "kill shot", before Rock stuck the mic in his lifeless face. The fifth ended up being delivered in the ring, and Foley still had to work his way to the end-stage, so more shots followed.

There was reportedly some friction between the two after the fact as Foley felt Rock had gone a little too far with the swings (particularly the quantity). He also concedes that in the moment, he didn't know just how bad it looked.
