By this time, Sami Zayn was well into his role of talkative, overly-energetic babyface that grated on the nerves of even other babyfaces, which was quite a departure from his valiant, determined do-gooder role. Until he turned heel and reunited with old "frienemy" Kevin Owens, 2017 wasn't looking like a banner year for Zayn.

His performance in the 2017 Rumble match seemed to be the perfect dichotomy. His 47 minutes and 12 seconds were the second longest duration in the match, but he failed to make even one elimination. Nobody has lasted longer in any Rumble match than Zayn without tossing even one opponent. Even Vince McMahon made one in 1999, and while he had help from The Rock in eliminating Stone Cold, one is at least a positive number.
