Since 1993, the winner of the Royal Rumble has earnt themselves a title shot at that year's WrestleMania PPV.

With WWE moving away from just having the one World Championship, that has offered up the chance for the company's male roster to have their choice of two prizes to choose to challenge for, while the introduction of the women's Royal Rumble likewise gave WWE's ladies the chance to choose between the Raw Women's Championship or the SmackDown's Women's Championship.

What was unique about the 2020 Royal Rumble, though, is that this was the first time in history that the winners of each Rumble match were able to choose to battle for one of the NXT brand's top two prizes should they see fit.

The 2020 men's Rumble winner, Drew McIntyre, was clearly on a collision course with WWE Champion Brock Lesnar as soon as the Scottish Psychopath's boot connected with Lesnar's jaw in the over-the-top offering, but women's winner Charlotte Flair opted to take the gold and black path after her Rumble victory.

Citing how she'd already beaten Raw Women's Champion Becky Lynch and SmackDown Women's Champion Bayley, Flair was paid a visit by NXT Women's Champion Rhea Ripley - and the wheels were put in motion for the two to clash at WrestleMania 36.
