It was previously noted that Warrior had made a series of demands regarding his WWE contract. In July 1991, Warrior sent a letter to McMahon outlining what he wanted, including increases in royalties and merchandise monies, as well as $550,000 for performing at WrestleMania 7, among other considerations. McMahon responded days later, agreeing to Warrior's demands with apparent graciousness.

Some time following SummerSlam's final match, in which Warrior had chased Colonel Mustafa and General Adnan to the locker room, Warrior has handed a note written by McMahon, dated that day. The note was informing him that he had been suspended, effective immediately.

The note read, in part, "You threatened to stay at home thereby not even appearing at Titan's major summer pay-per-view event SummerSlam. I had no choice but to accede to your exorbitant demands. This was a serious mistake on your part". McMahon would later note that he only agreed to Warrior's stipulations in order to ensure that his headliner did not skip out on the pay-per-view.
