In August 2000, WWE released a VHS tape (remember those?) called TLC: Tables, Ladders, and Chairs. The video had been in production long before the advent of TLC matches, the first of which took place at SummerSlam 2000, pitting Edge and Christian, The Hardy Boyz, and The Dudley Boyz in a battle for the Tag Team titles. The TLC name was too good not to spin off into its own match.

Since the Dudley Boyz were prone to putting opponents through tables, and the Hardyz were synonymous with jumping off of ladders, it was decided to establish Edge and Christian as the second and third best Chairmen in wrestling behind La Parka. Thus, the faux brothers began doing the "Con-Chair-To" steel-sandwich move as a prelude to Commissioner Mick Foley announcing the TLC match for SummerSlam, since it was based on all three men's weapon-based "calling cards".

It may be the only case in history where a tag team move was invented in order to set-up a specific, first-of-its-kind gimmick match.
