It takes a lot to overshadow The Rock in a triple threat, and even more to overshadow him when he's the WWE Champion. Granted, you could hardly call The Rock "overshadowed" in the SummerSlam 2000 main event, but the main storyline with the match didn't involve him.

At the time, Kurt Angle was making a storyline play for Stephanie McMahon (who seemed to enjoy his apparently-innocent affection), but it drew the ire of Triple H, making for serious tension. Triple H and Stephanie didn't see eye to eye either, so there was a question as to whether Stephanie would desert Hunter for Angle. The story, up until its premature end in September 2000, was brilliantly performed by all three, and well-crafted by its creator, Chris Kreski.

Kreski was a long-time TV writer who was hired by WWE after Vince Russo and Ed Ferrara bolted for WCW in October 1999. For the next year, Kreski headed television writing, and was the driving force behind a killer product, thanks to his insistence on storyboards, detail, and continuity. He was replaced as head writer by Stephanie around the time the angle ended. Coincidentally, the writing kinda went downhill after that.
