When looking for a reason as to why DDP's WWE run bombed so horribly, eyes shift toward The Undertaker, a wrestler who had amassed plenty of backstage power through his enduring run. The end of DDP as the manic stalker of The Undertaker's then-wife Sara (Sara Undertaker, as the joke went) came in the form of a one-two punch SummerSlam weekend.

First, DDP and Chris Kanyon lost a tag team steel cage match to Undertaker and Kane, a completely one-sided affair. The next night on Raw, Page lost to Sara herself, with Undertaker's help.

Page is notorious for scripting his matches down to the most minute detail, to the annoyance of some of those he worked with. Several sources (including Dave Meltzer and Bob Holly) claimed that Page tried to dictate his particular plans directly to The Undertaker, which went over about as well as you'd expect. Hence, Page getting annihilated in grand fashion before the pay-per-view audience. As Holly wrote, "Unless you're Vince, you don't tell 'Taker what to do. Ever."
