4. Michaels' Comeback Was Originally A One-Shot Deal

After Michaels lived up to his "Showstopper" nickname once more, there were no immediate plans for him as a wrestler. At the age of 37, Michaels had proven that he could still go out there and deliver that typical "match of the year candidate", stealing the show on a card that featured the likes of Chris Benoit, Eddie Guerrero, Kurt Angle, and Chris Jericho.

But the match with Triple H was merely a one-off at the time. Given that Michaels was returning from what was thought to be a career-ending injury, and that his balls-out style had previously led to him indulging in substances that were nearly his ruin, it was decided to take it easy and see how things played out health-wise. Michaels would, obviously, return down the line, but "one day at a time" was the thought process then.
