The lone elimination match at the 2007 Survivor Series ended up being a 5-on-4 affair. The babyface contingent lost Matt Hardy to a storyline injury days before the event, after unlikely Tag Team championship partner (and Survivor Series opponent) MVP took out his knee.

The angle was meant to put the babyfaces at a disadvantage, with Triple H and Jeff Hardy's eventual comeback from 5-on-2 odds (after Kane and Rey Mysterio were eliminated) being all the more impressive. Matt would've been back soon enough to exact revenge on MVP.

If only it were that easy. Two days after Survivor series (a week after filming the angle to write him out of the pay-per-view), Matt was rushed to the hospital with what turned out to be a burst appendix. Since Hardy was out of action until March 2008, many attribute MVP's attack on him as a way to have written him out long-term, but that wasn't the case - the appendix issue was bad incidental luck, and nearly fatal to boot.
