WWE is often referred to in slang by older wrestlers as "New York", since the longtime McMahon territory was firmly rooted in the 'Big Apple' and the surrounding region. As such, a quick check of the WWE World Championship history shows that many of the belt swaps into the early-eighties took place in New York City, at Madison Square Garden.

When CM Punk defeated Alberto Del Rio to capture the gold at Survivor Series 2011 (beginning his Herculean 14-month reign with the strap), it was the last time to date that the belt changed hands inside MSG. Additionally, it was the first time that the belt changed in the building since 2002, when Big Show defeated Brock Lesnar at that year's Survivor Series.

Perhaps a bit more surprisingly, it was also the most recent WWE World Championship change in New York state. And don't say "John Cena at WrestleMania 29" - that was northern New Jersey.
