The battle of the former WWE Champions was expected to be a hard-hitting, somewhat-chaotic affair, and on that front, it succeeded. Given the states of both men and Shawn Michaels after the match, however, the pain toll was probably higher than anticipated.

In Lesnar's case, the "Beast Incarnate" was knocked loopy early on from a Triple H knee to the head, and was in a daze for several minutes afterward. Triple H had it worse when Lesnar slammed him onto the ring steps, and it was initially feared that the COO had broken his arm. His arms were also damaged, along with his abdomen, during his entrance when "The Game" was doused with dry ice. The dramatic effect caused second-degree burns.

Michaels, who was in Triple H's corner, was originally thought to have broken his nose when Lesnar walloped him with his cinderblock of a fist. Though the nose was bloody, Michaels reported later that he avoided having it broken.
