When the delightfully-exuberant Mickie James toppled Trish Stratus to win the Women's Championship at WrestleMania 22 in Chicago, some might've predicted that the next WrestleMania women's title change would have Mickie in it. They'd have been right, but none would have guessed that it'd take 11 years.

Naomi's victory in the SmackDown Women's Six-Way proved notable in that regard. Most WrestleManias in between saw the women wrestlers shoehorned into tag team matches or lumberjill matches, or both simultaneously (which dignity-wise is at least a step up from grinding on Kid Rock). Only WrestleManias 23, 30, and 32 featured a Women's/Divas Championship match, with Melina, AJ Lee, and Charlotte respectively all retaining. Bayley's retention of the Raw Women's title earlier in 33 set the stage for Naomi to snap the cold spell.
