Best Matches: Eddie Guerrero vs. Brock Lesnar, Kurt Angle vs. John Cena vs. The Big Show, Chavo Guerrero vs. Rey Mysterio This was a Smackdown only PPV that has some sentimental value because it was the night when Eddie Guerrero ascended from midcarder to main event player as he challenged Brock Lesnar for the WWE Title. It was a great match as the underdog babyface challenger Guerrero challenged the heel WWE Champion Lesnar. They told a great story with Lesnar controlling much of the action and Guerrero finding a way to always keep fighting back. Eddie knew how to show the babyface fire as well as anybody. They told a great story in 30 minutes of action. The ref got bumped, so Goldberg ran in, hit a Spear on Lesnar and when Eddie covered, people thought that was it, but Lesnar kicked out. Great nearfall. Eddie fought out of a F5, hit a DDT on the title (sort of) and then the Frog Splash won it for Eddie. It was one of those genuine happy moments for wrestling fans because we knew how hard Eddie fought to get there. When it finally happened, the fans in the arena went crazy and those of us at home did as well. Kurt Angle's win over Big Show and John Cena in the triple threat match was good. It was the typical triple threat with a lot of finishers in the final few minutes. Cena was a babyface on the rise at this point, but a year away from being a main eventer. Angle's victory set up WrestleMania against Guerrero. The other noteworthy midcard match was Chavo Guerrero beating Rey Mysterio thanks to Chavo Sr. helping Chavo out. They always had good matches. If you watch the show, feel free to fast forward through the first hour. It's not that great.
