10 "Foreign" Wrestlers Who Were Actually Born In America

4. Chris Jericho

Chris Jericho is a modern-day legend, one of the heralded Canadian superstars to enter Stu Hart's infamous "Dungeon" and come out as a world-class talent. While the tale is a bit less storybook-like in actuality (Jericho trained for two months at the Hart Family Pro Wrestling Camp, run by Bruce and Keith Hart, then accrued experience all over the world), neither Jericho's talent nor his association with Canada can be disputed. Though he never really played the anti-American heel like some of the other grapplers on this list, his teams and clashes with other Canucks like Lance Storm, Chris Benoit, Edge, and Christian have inextricably linked him with the Great White North. Jericho's father, Ted Irvine, is a Winnipeg native who, like most Canadians, played in the NHL. While he was on the New York Rangers, he was living on Long Island, and that's where Jericho was born. It wasn't until Jericho was a child that his family moved back to Winnipeg, where he lived until heading to Calgary for training. In fact, during a brief period in the mid-2000s when WWE wanted all of its babyfaces to be announced from American hometowns, Jericho was billed as hailing from the LI town of Manhasset, NY. Still, Long Island or Winnipeg, Jericho is Jericho €“ and either way, he'd have an annoying accent.
