10 Forgotten Gems From WWF's New Generation Era

10. Bret Hart Vs. Hakushi (In Your House - May 1995)

You're going to see a lot of Bret Hart on this list because The Hitman just seemed to constantly have killer matches during the New Generation Era. His first appearance here is from the inaugural In Your House in May of 1995, as he went up against Japanese sensation Jinsei 'Hakushi' Shinzaki. Hakushi brought an exciting new style to the company with innovative aerial assaults that hadn't been regularly seen in the WWF up to that point. When Bret and Hakushi faced off in the opener of IYH, the expectation level wasn't particularly high. People knew that with two good workers, it probably wouldn't suck, but nobody was expecting a barn-burner or anything. What followed was one of the best matches of 1995. The Hitman offered the perfect balance to Hakushi's aerial offence and the two had a back-and-forth encounter that had the fans in Syracuse glued to ring. In the end Hart would win the match with a simple roll up, which actually only added to the drama of the match. Rather than Bret beating the Japanese star with his signature Sharpshooter, he was able to hook him into a roll up for just enough time to get the win, making Hakushi look strong and allowing The Hitman to continue his feud with Jerry Lawler. Nobody was able to make an opponent look better in defeat than Bret Hart.
