10 Forgotten Gems From WWF's New Generation Era

8. Shawn Michaels Vs. British Bulldog (King Of The Ring 1996)

When Shawn Michaels was the WWF Champion in 1996, his match with Mankind at Mind Games is often talked about as a classic and quite rightly so, but one of the other HBK title defenses that is often forgotten about is Shawn's second match with The Bulldog at King of the Ring. They had their first encounter at Beware of Dog but a screwy finish stopped the match from being remembered as anything more than a set up for their KOTR blowoff. With Owen Hart on commentary, Mr Perfect as the referee and Jim Cornette on the outside, it seemed the deck was stacked against The Showstopper and he'd have a tough time retaining his title, but in the end he would prevail much to the delight of the WWF fans. For almost thirty minutes, Davey Boy and The Heartbreak Kid went toe-to-toe trading suplexes, bodyslams, running powerslams and superkicks until Shawn finally hit a Sweet Chin Music that knocked out The Bulldog and he kept his WWF title. There's a lot going on in this match from Mr Perfect and his refereeing to the managers on the outside, but this is a classic WWF match executed to perfection, so make sure and stick on the WWE Network on a rainy day and watch this gem.
