10 Forgotten Gems From WWF's New Generation Era

3. Bret Hart Vs. 1-2-3 Kid (RAW - July 1994)

Nobody can argue that Bret Hart wasn't a fighting Champion in 1994 as he would defend his WWF Title against main eventers, up and comers and tag team competitors. In July of that year, Bret defended the belt against the young 1-2-3 Kid. Bret could've easily had a quick 5-10 minute match with Waltman and beaten him withouta sweat, but instead, they went about twenty minutes and The Hitman gave The Kid so much offense and credibility that there were a few believable near falls where you thought the title actually had a chance of changing hands. The test of a great champion is someone who can elevate their opponent and make sure they look good in defeat and Hart did both here as this match became a huge turning point in Sean Waltman's career. He'd proven he could hang with a guy like Bret Hart for twenty minutes on prime time Television. This hidden classic can be found on the July 11th, 1994 episode of RAW on the WWE Network.
