Sheamus was a budding star as WrestleMania XXVI approached, clearly a guy Vince McMahon saw as one of the future stars of his company. That he had won the WWE Championship just months into his main roster tenure showed how much faith the boss had in the performer. Despite losing it at February 2010's Elimination Chamber pay-per-view, he remained involved in a high-profile feud, targeting Triple H just in time for the Showcase of the Immortals. The two heavyweights waged war inside the University of Phoenix Stadium in Arizona, with Sheamus dominating the majority of the match. Though not as flashy as one would come to expect from a match on the grandest stage of them all, the contest featured solid psychology and an easy-to-follow, old school story in which Triple H overcame tremendous punishment to put away his cocky, arrogant, younger opponent. On a night in which Shawn Michaels waved goodbye to the industry, his longtime friend and D-Generation X teammate again demonstrated why he was one of the better, more cerebral workers in the business. More importantly for the sake of WWE's future, Sheamus proved that when the time called for it, he could hang with WWE's most elite stars.
