10 Forgotten WWE Masked Men
6. The Patriot
If international fans know anything about American fans then it's that they love flags, are partial to chanting the acronymous name for their country during matches and get incensed if you insult their local sports team. Such loyal and patriotic tendencies have resulted in some very strange characters over the years but perhaps none as "on the nose" as The Patriot.
The Patriot’s time in WWE was cut short due to a torn bicep injury but he was still able to make a respectable impact in his short tenure. Emerging to feud with Bret Hart and The Hart Foundation during the Canadian’s infamous Anti American storyline, The Patriot even took on Hart in a WWE Championship Match at In Your House: Ground Zero. From there he went on to be heavily featured, taking part in a Flag Match where he teamed with Vader to go head to head with Hart and The British Bulldog at Badd Blood 1997.
This encounter was unfortunately The Patriots last high profile match as he suffered his torn bicep injury before he could be part of Team USA at that years Survivor Series. History books (or in modern terms – network content) tend to focus on the likes of Shawn Michaels, Undertaker and Austin when looking back at this time, leaving The Patriot as something of an afterthought.
Interestingly, the Patriots theme “Medal” would go on to be a wildly popular and fan embraced entrance theme for The Olympic Hero Kurt Angle during his time in WWE.
