10 Former Midcarders Who Could Return To WWE As Main Eventers In 2015

2. Shelton Benjamin

Ah, the strange case of Shelton Benjamin. How did WWE manage to waste a man with so much natural ability and talent? WWE hired Benjamin at the request of his Minnesota wrestling teammate Brock Lesnar, who wanted his buddy with him while he went through WWE's developmental league OVW. WWE acquiesced in order to get Brock to sign but Benjamin turned out to be a hell of a signing in his own right. After a celebrated run as a member of Team Angle/The World's Greatest Tag Team, Benjamin was drafted to Raw in April 2004 and went solo. Things started well enough, with Benjamin scoring a couple of rare wins over Triple H. For the next year Benjamin grafted in the midcard and put in a truly spectacular performance in the original Money In The Bank Ladder Match at WrestleMania 21. More great matches followed until Benjamin turned heel, was given a losing streak and started being accompanied to the ring by his domineering, stereotypical 'Momma'. This was apparently a punishment for Benjamin after he had dissed a road agent backstage. Still, he continued to produce in the ring and remained one of WWE's most exciting and promising performers. That promise was, ultimately, never fulfilled and Benjamin was released by WWE in 2010. A lot of people put this down to Shelton's weak mic skills and lack of charisma. Many thought he should have achieved a lot more than he did in company. He has worked for Ring of Honor and New Japan since his release and remains as sharp as ever between the ropes. There were rumours earlier this week that Benjamin could be on his way back to WWE but it turned out that those reports were incorrect. Still, the prospect of a Shelton Benjamin return got people buzzing.
