10 Former Midcarders Who Could Return To WWE As Main Eventers In 2015
3. Carlito
Carlito, son of Puerto Rican legend Carlos Colon, was another talent whom WWE had high hopes and big plans for in the mid-2000's. In fact, his first match was in WWE was in the main event: he beat John Cena, of all people, to win the United States Championship. Carlito was injured not long after his auspicious debut but he did get to interact with Steve Austin and Roddy Piper at WrestleMania 21 in a Piper's Pit segment. Yes, WWE was trying to do everything they could to make Carlito a star. The next phase in the plan was to draft Carlito over to Raw. It was here that Carlito's career began to slide as he was booked almost exclusively in the midcard in feuds with Shelton Benjamin, Ric Flair and Jeff Hardy over the Intercontinental Championship. He didn't take this too well, complaining about WWE's backstage politics and lack of opportunities for wrestlers like himself. Carlito gradually grew more and more disinterest. He began phoning in his performances and clearly wasn't hitting the gym as hard as he had in the past. He also battled with an addiction to painkillers and was released when he refused to check himself into rehab. Carlito has mainly been performing on the independent circuit and in Puerto Rico since his release and has reinvented himself as a 'body guy'. Based on recent pictures, Carlito has clearly been back in the gym and this, coupled with his undeniable talent and charisma, should convince WWE to take another chance on him. Hiring Carlito back for another run in the main event? Now that's cool.
