10 Former WWE Talents Who Thrived in Lucha Underground

1. Catrina (F.K.A. Maxine)

The Lucha Underground roster features a number of names that once cut their teeth in WWE, but perhaps the biggest success story isn't someone who currently competes inside the squared circle. Or at least as a wrestler, anyway.

Remember Maxine? She was one of the six women part of the train wreck that was NXT Season 3. Because she was the show's sole heel, she was voted out of the competition early on. She stuck around in WWE and had a few fun programs with Johnny Curtis and Derrick Bateman in NXT: Redemption but quit the company in mid-2012.

She has since revealed on various podcasts that it was Dusty Rhodes who advised her to stay in the television and movie business, and he was right to do so. She joined Lucha Underground in late 2014 as Catrina, not as an active competitor but rather as a manager for Mil Muertes.

However, it seems she has become much more than that, unofficially serving as an authority figure for the first half of Season 2. Her dedication to the Catrina character is commendable and she plays the role exceptionally well, licking Muertes' fallen opponents after each bout and disappearing into thin air during backstage segments.

As it turned out, her WWE departure was a blessing disguise, giving us the crown jewel of Lucha Underground.
