10 Former WWE Talents Who Thrived in Lucha Underground
2. Johnny Mundo (F.K.A. John Morrison)
Talk about wasted potential. Almost everyone figured John Morrison would be a world champion at some point during his WWE career, especially when he was at his hottest from 2009 to 2011. But backstage politics (as well as below-average mic skills) stood in the way of that ever coming to fruition. He left when his contract expired in November 2011.
Three years later, he debuted in Lucha Underground on the pilot episode as Johnny Mundo. In addition to bringing credibility to the show with his name value from WWE, he rejuvenated his on-air character and became the promotion's best heel.
He has kept his flashy in-ring offense, but has adopted a cocky demeanor and has become the quintessential villain that doesn't embrace the adulation from the audience. Rather, he does everything he can to turn them against him. Furthermore, Taya has been an excellent addition to the act since they joined forces at the start of Season 2.
Mundo himself has gone on the record in saying he hopes to be back in WWE one day, but as one-third of the reigning Trio champions, here's hoping he continues to hone his craft in Lucha Underground for the foreseeable future.
